Teaching Comics

Above: me teaching a comic book workshop to 40 Albury Year 9 kids as part of the 'Write around the Murray festival' in August 2009.  Photograph taken at the 2009 Write around the Murray festival.

Over the past few years I've been teaching comics classes at libraries (St Kilda Library, the State Library of Victoria), schools (Merri Creek Primary School, Redesdale/Mia Mia Primary School) and literature festivals (the Write Around the Murray festival in Albury).   Participants have ranged from primary school students to secondary school students to adults and I'm keen that they all come away from a workshop with a finished page or two of comics under their arm. Very satisfying for all concerned.

Workshops have varied in length from one hour to a school day, and I usually launch off with an introduction to the artform of comics, go on to talk about Australian comics, and then we make some comics of our own.

Anyway, if you'd like me to come along and teach some comics at your place, send me an This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  and we can work it out.
